**** This position for use in Health Information Departments ONLY*****

This position retrieves, delivers, and maintains a high volume of patient records including filing and scanning using complex multimedia systems. Provides customer service related duties.

This position has no responsibility for providing care to patients.

Responsibilities:

- Maintains departmental records using multiple, complex filing systems to retrieve files, locate missing records, file and/or scan new and updated information, identify duplicate records, and purge old records.
- Responds to internal request for patient records by retrieving, copying and delivering medical files and micro-films records.
- Scans medical records into the hospital electronic medical record. Verify all scanned documents successfully interface into EMR.
- Performs chart construction and uses the department’s computer system to compile, monitor and file documents pertaining to protected health information.
- Releases protected health information to internal/external requestors according to State, Federal and other regulatory agencies.
- Determines appropriate document content and data elements necessary to be retained in the legal physical and electronic medical records.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

- Ability to tracking and maintain a high volume of confidential patient records with numerous updates.
- Ability to locate and deliver charts and other medical records to various departments and hospital staff; and must perform these functions with a high level of accuracy and in a timely manner.

Qualifications:

Required

- Two or more years of clerical experience preferably in a health care environment.
